Good work starts with a safe, comfortable workplace – this is the key concept behind this new generation of medium-duty trucks from Mercedes-Benz.

Econic's signature 'DirectVision' panoramic cab offers heightened visibility of the road ahead and the immediate surroundings. One-step entry from both sides of the cab, with single-level walk-through access and dual control capability, makes this an extremely easy-to-use vehicle for crews up to four people – particularly in kerbside applications, emergency services, and airport ground support.

Designed to be especially bodybuilder-friendly, featuring electro-hydraulically steered leading or trailing axles with height-adjustable full air suspension on all axles (-50 to +160 mm), Econic is adaptable to a variety of tasks and has been adopted for urban construction work across Europe. Its credentials are underpinned by a highly efficient, low-emission drivetrain, pairing the Euro 6 OM936 Mercedes-Benz engine with the class-leading Allison 6-spd automatic transmission.

Econic is available in 4x2, 6x2 and 6x4 configurations, with wheelbases ranging from 3,450mm to 5,700mm, and is rated from 18T to 32T.

In terms of anticipatory driving and accident prevention, Econic is a step ahead. Key to this is the low seating position and panoramic glazing around the front of the cab. Safety assistance systems, including cameras, sensors and extra lighting, allow the driver to concentrate on the surroundings – even in the most challenging situations. Econic can also be equipped with additional safety features.

Econic is powered by the highly economical and reliable Euro 6 OM936 engine. Tried and trusted, this 7.7-litre powerplant comes in two output options – 272hp (200kW) with maximum torque of 1200Nm, or 354hp (260 kW) with 1400Nm peak torque. A premium, two-stage engine brake delivers powerful braking assistance and reduced brake wear.

Allison 6-spd auto. With its intuitive shift logic, the Allison 6-spd automatic transmission is wear-free. The practical crawler function allows drivers to pull away precisely and is ideally suited for use in refuse collection or traffic management applications.

PowerShift 3. The optional semi-automatic PowerShift 3 transmission delivers superior handling and enhanced fuel economy through fast, precise gear selection and a range of pre-programmed drive modes. High-ratio reverse gears ensure easy manoeuvring, while pulling away from standstill is noticeably more comfortable thanks to the crawl function.
