eVito helps NZ Post deliver greener

60 new Mercedes-Benz electric eVito panel vans will play a significant role in helping the national post service achieve its 33% emissions reduction target.

The vans have replaced diesel and petrol vehicles on last mile delivery runs from the depot to our doorsteps and were prepared for service by Keith Andrews, which will also partner with NZ Post to provide parts, service and battery charging support.

“Our ambitious carbon reduction target aims to have all of our own fleet and a quarter of our last mile delivery contractor fleet electric by 2025 – with the balance of the contractor fleet electric by 2030,” said Dawn Baggaley, NZ Post’s Group Sustainability Manager.

“It’s a matter of urgency that we do everything we can to reduce emissions, and we are also seeking to assist our delivery partners shifting to low carbon delivery.”

James Hudson-Owen, Brand Manager – Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner at Keith Andrews, said that NZ Post’s eVito drivers can turn to its service technicians whenever required.

“We will be the supporting partner for NZ Post moving forward and we’ll keep the vans on the road via our dedicated team of EV specialist technicians.”

Head of Service & Technical, Matt Gillatt, said Keith Andrews is proud to provide specialist EV van support across the North Island.

“Over the past 12 months, we’ve been working with Mercedes-Benz New Zealand to train technicians specifically on the high voltage system in the vehicles, but more broadly on the EV products themselves.”

The technicians will be primarily based in Auckland and Wellington, but “they can move to wherever the customer needs them”, said Gillatt.
